Why this project needed our help
At more than 3500m above sea level, Markah Valley School is located in the remote mountainous area of Ladakh. In 2008, the school requested help to fund a new roof, and carry out essential repairs to the grounds.
How Juniper Trust helped
With the help of George Watson College, £4,500 was raised to pay for the repairs to Markha Valley School and to help the Lingshed Area Children’s Hostel development, including £500 to purchase a new computer for the Hostel. George Watson college sent a team of pupils to spend three days working alongside the Markha villagers, assisting in the construction of a new school roof, repairing the veranda, clearing an outside play area and building stepping stones and pathways for the children to get to their classrooms and latrines with dry feet!
What difference has been made?
Hard graft in hot sunshine with few tools and lots of dust! All at more than 3500m above sea level. Markah Valley School and Juniper Trust say a huge thank you to George Watson College for their magnificent efforts in fund-raising for this and other good and needy causes in Ladakh.
