School Finished and Re-Opened June 2016
Situated 120km south of Lukla in a very poor area of Nepal, Balakanya school was almost completely destroyed in the earthquake and the 75 children have been taught in temporary shelters since then. In December 2015, JT representatives met with the villagers and school committee and agreed a plans for a new 7 room school. Work began in February, the foundations were completed in April and in June 2016 the school was officially reopened. The school rebuild cost $18,000 and JT is now raising a further $2,000 to provide new uniforms, school bags and equipment for all 75 children. A special thanks to Pasang Sherpa who has helped with this project.
